Momentum (A Palpable Force)

Written by Kevin Wathey | August 12, 2023

We’ve all had the days where life exists in flow.

When one action begets the next, and decisions are effortless.

It’s days like these that remind you of the beauty that exists around us…

… of the enjoyment to be had in the moment

… and the simplicity required to feel fulfilled.

In my experience, these days don’t happen by accident.

Instead, they are a masterpiece of your own creation.

When I share this belief with others, their own mindset becomes very apparent…

... exposing two distinct and polar opposite views.

Group A:

... believes days are dependent on the circumstances that they find themselves.

Group B:

... believes good and bad are purely subjective, and the quality of their day is dependent upon how they ‘respond’ to the circumstances they find themselves.

When I first put two-and-two together it made me think of the following:

“In a fixed mindset, people believe their basic qualities, like their intelligence or talent, are simply fixed traits. They spend their time documenting their intelligence or talent instead of developing them. They also believe that talent alone creates success—without effort. In a growth mindset, people believe that their most basic abilities can be developed through dedication and hard work—brains and talent are just the starting point.”

- Carol Dweck in Mindset.

This difference in belief, when distilled down to its roots, determines how we view the choices we make… and the identity we have of ourselves.

When you wake up in the morning and don’t want to work out, do you negotiate with yourself…
… or do you say “This is what we do.”?

When the alarm rings early, and you have the choice to snooze or seize the day, do you tell yourself, "Just five more minutes..."
… or do you decide, "Every second counts"?

I'm not here to claim to do one or the other...
... but I do know that when I do the latter I feel better and my energy is magnetic.

Discipline and routine aren't about restriction but about creating momentum.

They are the tools with which we sculpt our best selves and our best days.

Think of it this way...
A river without banks ceases to flow.

But with structure...
... the guiding force of its banks, the river gains momentum, power, and direction.

Similarly, when you set the correct structure in your life, time takes on a new dimension, opportunities multiply, and experiences become richer. Time disappears, and instead, moments are filled with growth, living, and meaning.

This happens in sports, at concerts, and in synchronistic events.

We can sense it, and we know it exists...

... so lead in to it in your own life - and design your day to match.

Plus... that voice in your head is not you...
It's just a chorus of experiences, societal norms, and perceived limitations.

So don't let it control this one shot you have at designing a masterpiece of a life. Anything that can be observed is not you. … a topic for another week.

Remember:
Anything that can be observed is not you.
… a topic for another week.

Let your energy flow!

Happy Saturday!
