The US healthcare system isn't broken, it's rigged.
Fortunately, we're starting to see people like Casey Means take a stand.

I've been doing a lot of research for Baseline this week and last which hasn't permitted much leisurely writing time.

This week, instead of writing my thoughts I'm going to share some stats I've found fascinating.

88% of Americans are metabolically unhealthy. 74% of American adults are overweight or obese, 51% of children.

In 1990, 23% of American adults were overweight or obese. 11% of children.

Reversible chronic & mental health diseases account for 95% of annual $4.8T healthcare spend in the US.

80% of these chronic diseases can be avoided by lifestyle intervention and behavior change.

In 1960, 0% of healthcare spending was for chronic conditions.
Today, 76% of doctor visits, 81% of hospital admissions and 91% of prescriptions are for chronic conditions.

The US digital health market was $216B in 2023, projected to reach $657B by 2030.

Healthcare is 21% of the American economy and produces 5x the Global Advertising Industry. 

Adding just one year of life expectancy to the planet is worth $38T annually. 

Wellness programs contributed $275.6B in improved productivity in 2022, projecting $346.6B by 2026.

Wellness programs cut direct medical costs by $101B in 2022, projecting $108B by 2026.

A 25% increase in workforce productivity equals a 15% increase in profitability.

For every $1 spent on wellness programs, companies save $5.82 in reduced absenteeism costs.

Successful wellness programs result in 11% more revenue per employee and 28% higher shareholder returns.

91% of employees with executive supported wellbeing programs feel motivated to achieve their best work.

Wellness programs saved corporations $20.3B through improved retention in 2022, increasing to $24.3B by 2026.

48% of US employees say they would stay at their job longer because of employer sponsored wellness programs.

80% of all coursework in Medical Schools is centered around Pharmacology.
